Echocardiography

Echocardiography is ultrasound imaging of the heart to demonstrate heart wall and valve motion and patterns of blood flow through the chambers of the heart as well as structural variations and measurements.

What to expect during echocardiography?

  • Echocardiograms are performed with the patient lying in the left lateral position. A warmed gel is applied on the the area over the heart and the transducer.
  • The exam is performed by scanning sections of the heart between the rib cage bones at different angles to obtain images of the structure and functions of the heart.

Is there anything else I should know?
You are requested to bring a copy of the medical history of the patient, including recent lab work reports and any previous imaging scans that may have been prescribed by your doctor.
